Owner of Indian Cricket Team Engaging in Discussions to Secure a Loan of Up to $100 Million

(Bloomberg) -- The owner of the Delhi Capitals, an Indian Premier League cricket team, is reportedly seeking a private credit loan in the range of $90 million to $100 million, as disclosed by sources familiar with the matter.

JSW GMR Cricket Pvt. Ltd., the club's owner, intends to utilize the funds for general corporate purposes, as per the sources who preferred to remain anonymous due to the confidentiality of the matter. The loan would be secured by the assets of the Delhi Capitals team, encompassing broadcasting rights and sponsorships.

If finalized, this move would position JSW GMR as the latest entity within the lucrative sports industry to explore private credit as a source of financing. In a similar vein, Chelsea FC secured £500 million from Ares Management Corp., as reported by Bloomberg in September.
